Cincinnati Chili


Ingredients:

  • 2 lb ground beef
  • 1 qt. water
  • 2 onions
  • 1 15-oz. can tomato sauce
  • 2 Tb vinegar
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 square unsweetened chocolate
  • 1/4 cup chili powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne
  • 5 cloves (3/4 tsp ground)
  • 5 allspice berries (1 tsp ground)
  • 1 bay leaf

Directions:

  1. Cover beef with cold water. Bring to a boil, breaking up the meat. Boil 30 min.
  2. Add remaining ingredients & spices. Simmer 3 (!) hours .
  3. “2-way:” Serve over spaghetti.
  4. “3-way:” Serve over spaghetti, topped with shredded cheddar.
  5. “4-way:” Serve over spaghetti, topped with shredded cheddar and diced onions.
  6. “5-way:” Serve over spaghetti, topped with shredded cheddar, diced onions, and kidney beans.
